IPMAT vs JIPMAT: differences in pattern and IIMs

IPMAT (the tests run by IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak) and JIPMAT (run by NTA) are different exams for different IIMs. Here is how they compare in the 2026 cycle. Last checked 31 October 2026.

What is different in practice

• Quant. JIPMAT is school-level, so speed counts. Indore adds a Short Answer section, which has no negative marking. See the Indore pattern.
• Logical reasoning and DI. Rohtak and JIPMAT test LR and DI. Indore has no separate LR/DI section.
• Time. Indore times each section. Rohtak and JIPMAT give one clock for the whole paper, so you choose the split.
• After the test. JIPMAT IIMs use your percentile and school marks. IIM Indore adds a personal interview worth 35 of 100. IIM Jammu uses 70 for JIPMAT, 15 for Class 10 and 15 for Class 12.

Should you write all of them?

Many students write all three. The overlap is large: Quant, Verbal and reasoning basics. Build one base, then practise each pattern on its own clock. Use the free mocks. Check eligibility first, since each exam has its own age and marks rules.

Which is easier?

There is no honest official answer. Cut-offs are not comparable: Indore and Rohtak use raw marks and JIPMAT rules use percentiles. See the cut-offs page. Pick by the IIMs you want and your strengths.
