The idea
A word analogy gives a pair with a fixed relation and asks for the option with the same relation, in the same order. Rohtak 2019 set two and Rohtak 2020 one; JIPMAT sets one to three a year, including 'which of these analogies are correct' (2025, 2026) and a three-word colour mix (2021).
Textbook vs exam method
Textbook method
Name the relation of the given pair in one exact sentence. Apply the sentence to every option; keep the one where it holds with the words in the same order.
Exam method
- Sentence test. "Embarrass, then humiliate: the second is a stronger degree of the first." Only annoy : exasperate fits; enquire : ask is a plain synonym.
- Order check. drill : bore is tool : action, so sieve : sift, not the reverse.
- Study of, specialist for. botany : plants, entomology : insects; dermatologist : skin, pulmonologist : lungs.
- Statement sets. mark each statement true or false, then pick the matching option (JIPMAT 2025: B and D only).
