The idea of Word substitution, sentence codes, word formation
Three formats share this subconcept. Sentence codes: a few sentences and their coded forms are given; words that recur pin down their codes by intersection, and the rest follow by elimination (JIPMAT 2021: 'sik' = red). Word swaps: a chain of "X is called Y" statements; the question asks a fact and wants the code word for the true answer (Rohtak 2019: the king of the jungle is told as Goat). Word formation: which word can or cannot be made from the letters of a given word (JIPMAT 2021, 2024).
The exam method
- Most frequent word first. 'is' appears in all three sentences and only '9' is in all three codes: is = 9.
- Pairs of sentences. 'flowers' is in two sentences; their common code is hee. Then the sentence 'red flowers' = 'sik hee' leaves sik for red.
- Leftovers. In 'fly on painted sky', fly, on and painted are known from other sentences, so sky takes the remaining code.
- Joined words. bike and 'and' appear only together in two sentences with codes tm and ts: nothing separates them.
- Swaps. answer the fact (the national fruit is the mango), then read the chain once: Mango is called Papaya.
- Formation. tick off letters; SOLACE needs an E that MIRACULOUS lacks.
