The idea
An argument has a premise (evidence) and a conclusion. The assumption is the unstated link the author needs: if it is false, the conclusion does not follow. Indore tests this inside RC ("the author assumes…"); Rohtak sets standalone CR. Our bank keeps these at difficulty 1-3.
Textbook vs exam method
Textbook method
- Find the conclusion (often after "so", "therefore", or the sentence the rest supports).
- Find the premise.
- Spot the new idea in the conclusion that the premise never mentions.
- The assumption links the two.
Exam method
- Predict the gap. before reading the options.
- Eliminate. options that are outside the argument (cost, other people, future), too strong ("every", "no other", "only"), or that merely repeat the evidence.
- Negation test. on the last two: negate each; the one whose negation breaks the argument is the answer.
