Lesson 2 of 3 · Dice: views, opposite faces and open nets
Open net
Cubes and Dice · for IPMAT Indore, IPMAT Rohtak and JIPMAT · asked in Rohtak 2019
The exam method
- For nets, mark the opposite pairs on the sheet first (pairs two apart in a row), then reject every option that shows an opposite pair together.
Worked examples
Net: K, L, O in a row with M above L and N, P below. Opposite K?
Solution: O. K and O are two apart in the row.
Net: A above C; B, C, D, E in a row; F below C. Which die can be formed: (top C, front B, right D), (top A, front D, right C), (top B, front F, right A), (top A, front B, right C)?
Solution: the last. B–D, C–E, A–F are opposite, so the first and third are out. Round the corner of A, B, C the sheet reads A → C → B clockwise = top A, right C, front B. The second die shows A, C, D in the mirror order.
