The idea
A line graph joins values of one or more series over time or over categories. Questions read points, gaps between lines and changes from one point to the next. No JIPMAT PYQ so far is a line graph (its DI sets are tables, bars and pies), so the sets here come from the PW pack at JIPMAT level. Several mix a line with bars, a table or ratios given under the chart.
Textbook vs exam method
Textbook method
- Read the legend, the axis unit and whether a line is a count or a percentage.
- Copy the points you need into a table.
- Do the operation in the stem on the right base.
- Check the direction word and unit.
Exam method
- One row per line. write the values once; most questions reuse them.
- Derived row. profit = income - expenditure, girls = students - boys; build it before the questions.
- Growth-rate questions. shortlist the visibly rising segments and compare rise/start for those only.
- Percent lines. turn them into counts with the given total, then answer as a table.
