The idea
Two pies, side by side or one inside the other, show two totals (two years, all students and female students, appeared and qualified, all sales and chocolate sales). Questions compare a sector across the pies, so each share has to be turned into an amount with its own total first. No JIPMAT PYQ so far uses two pies; the sets here come from the PW pack and are JIPMAT-level practice.
Textbook vs exam method
Textbook method
- Write the total of each pie (given, or found from one given amount).
- Convert the sectors you need into amounts, each with its own pie's total.
- Compare the amounts: ratio, percent, difference or change.
Exam method
- Table first. one row per sector you need, one column per pie, values as amounts.
- Same total, skip the multiplication. if both pies split the same number, compare the shares directly.
- Share of a share. chocolates are 24% of daily-need sales and one brand 15% of chocolates, so that brand = 0.24 x 0.15 = 3.6% of all sales.
- Changes. new amount = old share x old total x (1 + rate); never apply the rate to the share alone.
