The idea
Three (sometimes four) blanks spread over one to three sentences, often lifted from an editorial or a non-fiction book. Indore has set them almost every year: 2019 (assiduous/querulous, multiculturalism, quantum physics), 2020 (coral reefs, privilege, cohesive team, CIF), 2021 (listening, events, appraisal, Aravalli), 2022 (two four-blank items: philosophy and spaceflight), 2023 (influencers, work from home, 21st-century culture) and a full set of six in 2024. 2025 again had double and triple items. The words are rarely obscure; the skill is elimination.
Textbook vs exam method
Textbook method
Fill blank 1, then blank 2, then blank 3, checking each option's words in order.
Exam method
- Read the whole passage once. for its direction (positive or negative, cause or contrast, technical or general).
- Hunt for the anchor blank. a fixed phrase ("without ___ in history", "orally as well as in ___"), a defined term ("collective investment fund" → pooled), or the clearest clue.
- Eliminate on the anchor. Typically two or three options die.
- Test survivors on the next-easiest blank,. including grammar (is it a verb, an adjective, a superlative?).
- Stop as soon as one option survives,. then read it through once.
