The idea
JIPMAT and Rohtak ask jumbles as multiple choice: either a short paragraph (four or five sentences labelled A-E) or a single sentence split into four parts (P, Q, R, S). Because the options are given, the fastest route is elimination.
Textbook vs exam method
Textbook method
Find the opening sentence (or the subject of the sentence), then arrange the rest so that each part follows logically from the previous one.
Exam method
- Opener test. Cross out every option whose first label starts with a pointer word ("It", "This", "However", "For instance", "such").
- Pair test. Among the survivors, find one pair that must be adjacent ("For that we need…" after the aim it refers to) and choose the option that keeps it.
- Sentence parts. Put the subject and verb first, attach objects and phrases in grammatical order, and check that the last part can end a sentence.
