The idea
JIPMAT 2021 printed a sentence with four underlined words or phrases and asked which one contains the error; the four options were those phrases, in a shuffled order. There is no "No error" option, so the question is only where the error is. The rules are the same as in part-error; this bank shows the underlined parts in bold.
Textbook vs exam method
Textbook method
Read the sentence, find the clause structure (subject, verb, object, linking words), and check each bold part against the grammar rule that governs it.
Exam method
- Read the whole sentence once. and locate the subject and main verb.
- Check the bold verb forms first. (agreement, tense, -ing vs to), then pronouns, then the small words (prepositions, articles, conjunctions).
- Name the fix. ("have → has"). If you cannot name a fix for a part, it is probably correct.
- Match to the option. (they may be shuffled).
