    Answer: C. Illusion

    Answer: (C) Illusion

    Working:

    1. Genuine and authentic are synonyms; a mirage is an illusion.

    Why the others are wrong:

    • (A) A mirage is caused by refraction, but "reflection" is not its meaning.
    • (B) A hideout is unrelated.
    • (D) An image is any picture; a mirage is specifically a false one.
  4. Question 4Multiple choiceAsked in JIPMAT 2026Word order (logical sequence, dictionary order)

Arrange the following words alphabetically as in a dictionary: A. Enthusiasm B. Ephemeral C. Enterprise D. Entrench E. Exhilarate

    1. A.A, C, D, B, E
    2. B.B, C, A, E, D
    3. C.C, D, A, B, E
    4. D.C, A, D, B, E
    Show the answer and solution

    Answer: D. C, A, D, B, E

    Answer: (D) C, A, D, B, E

    Working:

    1. Ente < Enth < Entr < Ep < Ex: Enterprise, Enthusiasm, Entrench, Ephemeral, Exhilarate.

    Why the others are wrong:

    • (A) Enterprise (ente) comes before Enthusiasm (enth).
    • (B) Ephemeral (ep) comes after every "ent" word.
    • (C) Enthusiasm (enth) comes before Entrench (entr).
  5. Question 5Multiple choiceWritten by IPMATwayWord order (logical sequence, dictionary order)

Arrange the following words in the order in which they appear in a dictionary: A. Monarch B. Monitor C. Monsoon D. Monetary E. Monopoly

    1. A.A, D, B, C, E
    2. B.C, A, D, B, E
    3. C.A, D, B, E, C
    4. D.D, A, B, E, C
    Show the answer and solution

    Answer: C. A, D, B, E, C

    Answer: (C) A, D, B, E, C

    Working:

    1. All the words share their first letters, so compare at the first position where they differ.
    2. Dictionary order: Monarch, Monetary, Monitor, Monopoly, Monsoon: A, D, B, E, C.

    Why the others are wrong:

    • (A) Monopoly comes before Monsoon: after "Mon" the next letters are o and s.
    • (B) Monarch comes before Monsoon: after "Mon" the next letters are a and s.
    • (D) Monarch comes before Monetary: after "Mon" the next letters are a and e.
  6. Question 6Multiple choiceAsked in JIPMAT 2021Classification / odd one out

In this question, four numbers are given. Out of these, three are alike in a certain way and one is different. Choose the one which is different from the rest three.

    1. A.5698
    2. B.7894
    3. C.8793
    4. D.9865
    Show the answer and solution

    Answer: C. 8793

    Answer: (C) 8793

    Working:

    1. Digit sums: 5698, 7894 and 9865 give 28; 8793 gives 27.

    Why the others are wrong:

    • (A) 5 + 6 + 9 + 8 = 28.
    • (B) 7 + 8 + 9 + 4 = 28.
    • (D) 9 + 8 + 6 + 5 = 28.
  7. Question 7Multiple choiceWritten by IPMATwayLetter analogy

Choose the group of letters that completes the analogy.

    CAT : DCW :: SIT : ?

    1. A.TJU
    2. B.VKU
    3. C.TKW
    4. D.RGQ
    Show the answer and solution

    Answer: C. TKW

    Compare the letters of CAT and DCW position by position. C (3) to D (4) is +1. A (1) to C (3) is +2. T (20) to W (23) is +3. So the shifts grow by one: +1, +2, +3.

    Apply to SIT: S (19) +1 = T (20); I (9) +2 = K (11); T (20) +3 = W (23). The group is TKW.

Each wrong option comes from another shift pattern (+1,+1,+1; +3,+2,+1; -1,-2,-3), and none of these turns CAT into DCW.

  8. Question 8Multiple choiceWritten by IPMATwayNumber analogy

Choose the number that completes the analogy.

    3 : 36 :: 4 : 80 :: 6 : ?

    1. A.252
    2. B.216
    3. C.294
    4. D.168
    Show the answer and solution

    Answer: A. 252

Check small rules on the two given pairs. 3→363\to36: 3×12=3×3×4=32(3+1)3\times12=3\times3\times4=3^2(3+1). 4→804\to80: 42×5=16×5=804^2\times5=16\times5=80. So the rule is n2(n+1)n^2(n+1).

    Apply to 6: 62×7=36×7=2526^2\times7=36\times7=252.

Other rules do not fit both pairs: n3n^3 gives 27 and 64; n(n+1)2n(n+1)^2 gives 48 and 100; a straight-line rule through (3,36) and (4,80) would give 168 at 6 but it ignores the multiplication pattern. Only n2(n+1)n^2(n+1) fits both pairs and appears among the options.

  9. Question 9Multiple choiceWritten by IPMATwayNumber analogy

Choose the number that completes the analogy.

    (2, 3) : 19 :: (1, 5) : 31 :: (4, 6) : 76 :: (5, 3) : ?

    1. A.34
    2. B.49
    3. C.64
    4. D.40
    Show the answer and solution

    Answer: B. 49

    Try a2+b2a^2+b^2 first: (2, 3) gives 13, but the answer is 19, a gap of 6 which equals a×ba\times b. Check the other pairs: (1, 5): 1+25=261+25=26, gap 5 =1×5=1\times5; (4, 6): 16+36=5216+36=52, gap 24 =4×6=4\times6. So the rule is a2+ab+b2a^2+ab+b^2.

    For (5, 3): 25+15+9=4925+15+9=49.

The tempting alternatives a2+b2a^2+b^2 (34), (a+b)2(a+b)^2 (64) and a2+aba^2+ab (40) each fail on the first pair.

  10. Question 10Multiple choiceWritten by IPMATwayLetter analogy

Choose the group of letters that completes the analogy.

    FLOW : DLOU :: MAZE : ?

    1. A.NAZV
    2. B.NZAV
    3. C.EZAM
    4. D.VAZN
    Show the answer and solution

    Answer: D. VAZN

Compare FLOW with DLOU. Mirror each letter (position p becomes 27 minus p): F (6) to U (21), L (12) to O (15), O (15) to L (12), W (23) to D (4). That gives UOLD. DLOU is UOLD written backwards, so the rule is: mirror every letter, then reverse the order.

    For MAZE: M (13) to N (14), A to Z, Z to A, E (5) to V (22). Mirror: NZAV. Reversed: VAZN.

NZAV (mirror only) and EZAM (reverse only) each fail on FLOW.
