Lesson 2 of 4 · Word pair relationship
Part whole
Verbal Analogies · for IPMAT Indore, IPMAT Rohtak and JIPMAT · asked in JIPMAT 2021
The idea of Word pair relationship
An analogy question gives a pair of words with a relationship (MAN : HUMANITY) and asks for the pair, or the missing word, with the same relationship (DROP : OCEAN). Rohtak asked two in each of 2019 and 2020; JIPMAT asked two in 2021.
The exam method
- Build the bridge. one short sentence linking the two words, with the first word first. "A sedative is something that brings on sleep."
- Run every option through the bridge. "A mnemonic is something that brings on memory." It fits. "Vocal is something that brings on eloquence." It does not.
- Check direction and degree. the bridge must work in the same order and with the same strength.
- Tighten if needed. if two options survive, make the bridge more specific.
