The idea

An analogy question gives a pair of words with a relationship (MAN : HUMANITY) and asks for the pair, or the missing word, with the same relationship (DROP : OCEAN). Rohtak asked two in each of 2019 and 2020; JIPMAT asked two in 2021.

Textbook vs exam method

Exam method

  1. Build the bridge. one short sentence linking the two words, with the first word first. "A sedative is something that brings on sleep."
  2. Run every option through the bridge. "A mnemonic is something that brings on memory." It fits. "Vocal is something that brings on eloquence." It does not.
  3. Check direction and degree. the bridge must work in the same order and with the same strength.
  4. Tighten if needed. if two options survive, make the bridge more specific.
