The idea
Each person has one value of each attribute (city, sport, spouse, college), and the clues pair them up. JIPMAT asks a short single-question version almost every year (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026: games and subjects, couples, cities and transport). PW sets add a second attribute and four or five questions on one grid.
Textbook vs exam method
Textbook method
- Make a table: one row per person, one column per attribute.
- Fill every direct clue; mark negatives with a cross.
- Use "each value once": a value fixed in one row is crossed out of the others; a row with one value left takes it.
- Apply linked clues (the Kanpur traveller stays in Clarks Awadh) once one side is known.
- If two cases remain, carry both and answer only what holds in both.
Exam method
- Direct clues first. Neha Tea and Cake, Rohit Hot Chocolate and Pastry.
- Pairs. Lemonade with Ice Cream, not Barun, so Ankit.
- Last free cell. Barun has neither Milkshake nor Coffee, so Soft drinks; Sameer has no Coffee, so Milkshake; Priya Coffee.
- Answer from the grid;. for combination options check every part.
