The idea
People or events are placed on months, dates or years. It is a row ordered by time, sometimes with two levels (month, then date). Clues give gaps ("two persons born between N and Q"), arithmetic ("five years older") and calendar facts (leap years). No JIPMAT or Rohtak PYQ uses a month-date set; JIPMAT's birthday-range items sit in clocks-calendars. The sets here are PW practice plus originals.
Textbook vs exam method
Textbook method
- Write the slots in time order (the given years, or months x dates).
- Place the clue that fixes a single slot.
- Place the gap and arithmetic clues around it.
- Fill the rest and check every clue.
Exam method
- Arithmetic shortlist. with years 1962, 1967, 1975, 1982, 1987, 1993, 1996, "five years apart" fits 1962-1967 and 1982-1987 only.
- Leap year. among those years only 1996 is a leap year.
- Older = earlier. write each "older than" clue as an arrow on the time line.
