The idea
A team is picked from a pool under rules of the form "A and B not together", "if A then B", "exactly one of X and Y". The set has only a handful of valid teams, and the skill is to list them.
Textbook vs exam method
Textbook method
- Note the team size and any fixed split (for example two of each kind).
- Turn each rule into a test a team must pass.
- Split on the most-mentioned person; follow the rules to extend or kill each branch.
- List every valid team, then answer by reading the list.
Exam method
- Fixed pairs first. "Arpit iff Amal" joins two people into one unit.
- Exactly-one rules. they give a two-way split at once (Ashwani branch or Arpit branch).
- Kill branches fast. a branch that cannot fill the team size is dead.
- Budget sets. list all triples within the limit, tick off the barred pairs, then read the maximum.
