The idea
A set of people is split into teams or cars with rules about who may travel or play together. The splits are few, so enumerate them.
Textbook vs exam method
Textbook method
- Fix the group sizes.
- Place the most-restricted people.
- Fill the rest, checking each "cannot be together" pair.
- If two fills work, both appear in the "Both (A) and (B)" option.
Exam method
- Fix the trio. once the team of three is given, only four players remain and each barred pair forces the pairing.
- Opposite sides. with two groups, "A and B cannot be together" puts them in different groups.
- Reading the answer. if two splits survive, choose the option that lists both.
